Our Kind of Town

Ferri students show off ‘Our kind of town’

The students in Joan Bagley’s inclusion classroom at Ferri Middle School spent the past two months researching a topic near to their hearts – the Town of Johnston. The six students each researched a different aspect of municipal government, from the police department to the Mohr Library.

The class presented their findings, along with posters and dioramas of the municipal buildings, to family and classmates on Monday morning.

“They were really proud to invite other people,” Bagley said.

Bagley also said the lesson really engaged the students, who will now visit some of the town buildings they researched. It was a good team building exercise, she added, as they all helped one another complete the assignment.

“It brought them together more as a class. It made a community in the classroom,” she said. “They did great.”

At the end of the presentation, the class performed a song they had helped to write, about Johnston, called “Our kind of town.”
