RI Governor Gina M. Raimondo stopped by Briarcliffe Manor, a Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday to visit with the residents and talk about the importance of voting in this year’s Primary Elections.

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena and Councilman Richard Delfino met up with the Governor and her son Tommy at the nursing home.

Akshay K. Talwar, President and owner of Briarcliffe Manor and Briarcliffe Gardens and his assistant Stefany Reed introduced everyone as well as discussed the new addition planned for the Briarcliffe 75 acre campus, a new Assisted Living facility that is when built that will occupy 75 new residents. This will compliment the 122 bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation center as well as the 64 bed memory care assisted living residents. Families will have a full continuum of care right here in Johnston.

The building has a target date of November, 2019 to be finished. An artist’s rendition (pictured above) of the building is on display in the manor’s lobby.

The Governor met many of the residents (including Paul Okolowitcz at top), shook hands and answered questions. Her son Tommy got a lot of attention from the crowd as many said, “hey the kid from the TV commercial.”

Raimondo spoke with two elderly groups, one at each of the facilities, Briarcliffe Manor & Briarcliffe Gardens, before leaving to rush off to yet another location.
