Johnston routs Ponaganset for third straight win

The Johnston girls’ lacrosse team rattled off its third consecutive victory on Tuesday, routing Ponaganset on the road, 15-1, to improve to 6-1 in the Division III standings.

Junior attack Grace Sarah pushed her season goal total to 24 by leading all scorers with six goals against the Chieftains. She also assisted on two other goals in an eight-point effort.

Gabriella Sauro scored three goals for the Panthers, while Loriann Samayoa added two, Kaylee Lameiro posted two goals and an assist and Bianca Robbins added a goal and an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Jacsmile Cassion sparked Johnston’s defensive effort, stopping eight of the nine shots sent on net.

With Toll Gate’s (7-2) loss against first-place Westerly on Tuesday, the Panthers moved into sole possession of second place within the division.

Johnston will look for a fourth straight win today when it hosts Rogers at 5 p.m.
