JMCE Golf Tournament welcoming more tee sponsorships

Although the Johnston Memorial Cancer Events 11th Annual Golf Tournament is sold out and did so in two weeks and will feature a record-setting 200 players, the organizing committee wants to surpass another important mark when the May 5 tournament tees off at Connecticut National Golf Club in Putnam, Connecticut.

That area includes the always-colorful tee and business signs that in recent years have helped the JMCE increase its annual donation to the Hematology and Oncology Units at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

“Tee sponsorships are always welcome,” Linda LaFazia and Judi Graham, who co-chair the JMCE Tourney Fundraising Committee, said earlier this week. “These signs are an inexpensive and effective way to promote your business and show that you support this community endeavor.”

The business tee signs are priced at just $60 and are placed at strategic locations all around the well-manicured 18-hole layout at Connecticut National.

“They’re colorful and made up just the way a person wants to advertise his or her business,” LaFazia noted. “In years past, area business owners have even purchased two signs with different messages on each one.”

Graham, who along with her husband and committee member David Graham own and operate Graham Building Company in Smithfield and have long supported many charitable events in-and-around Johnston, announced “We are also offering Memorial Tee Sponsor signs that have been a huge hit in recent years.”

She said the Memorial Sponsor Tee Signs are only $40 and are a great way to remember a loved one who has passed away after battling cancer. Graham also suggested that people who’d like to remember deceased family members have also purchased Memorial Tee Signs in previous years.

“Those business and memorial tee signs also enhance the setting on tourney day,” John Graham – no relation to Judi or David – offered after a recent meeting. “The memorial signs are and have always been popular even among those families for whom this tourney is played each and every year.”

Moreover, the Memorial Tee Signs have become a JMCE tradition ever since the highly-acclaimed non-profit held “Campfires for Cancer” inside Johnston War Memorial Park.

“We just received checks and orders for several signs,” LaFazia said. “We always find room for more.”

In keeping with tradition, the JMCE Golf Tournament is played each and every May in loving memory of Sal Gelsomino, Anna Mazzulla, Laura DeAngelis, Raymond Johnson, John Furia and Frances Grasso who were all friends of the closely-knit group that has created one of New England’s most successful golf events.
