The JMCE Memorial Golf Tournament, which is now regarded as one of the best charitable events in New England, will tee off Saturday with some extraordinary, unbelievable numbers.

Player wise, this year’s tourney will set an all-time record with 50 foursomes and 200 golfers, all of whom will readily attest “we are participating for the cause – children with cancer and support of the nationally-famous Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.”

There are more numbers, though, that created a tear or three from the eyes of the JMCE’s “Dynamic Duo” –Secretary-Treasurer and long-serving Board Member Judi Graham.

“We have a total of 19 Major Sponsors this year,” LaFazia, wife of JMCE golf guru/tourney chairman Vin LaFazia, announced after last week’s pre-tee off meeting. “We also have our reliable and steadfast sponsors from past years all of whom have been with us from the beginning.”

To which Graham, who along with her husband own and operate Graham Builders of Smithfield and charter JMCE members, added: “Eight of those major sponsors are new and that’s certainly exciting news for our beneficiary, the Oncology and Hematology Units at Hasbro Hospital.”

For the record, JMCE Major Sponsorships sell for $500 per business and/or organization.

Those sponsors, all of whom will have signs prominently displayed all over the Connecticut National layout Saturday, are: Gentry Moving, Graham Builders, Inc., Gelsomino Family, Brewed Awakenings, DiGregorio Corporation, Muldowney Physical Therapy, Connecticut National Golf Club, Johnston Recreation Department and Salzillo Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Also, PG Realty, Union Fence, Cavanagh Company, Anytime Reality, Construction & General Laborers Local Union 455, Excell Construction Corporation, Micro Precision, LLC, Wells Fargo –Dealer Services, Calise and Sons Bakery and Johnston Girls’ Softball.

Add to that list the fact that tee and memorial signs, donations and prizes have also hit record number because, as LaFazia and Graham wanted it known, “our committee members John Graham, Joe and Tina Harris and Ray Johnson have gone non-stop in helping us reach another record.”

Perhaps that’s why when the tourney tees off with a morning and afternoon flight Saturday, the JMCE’s 11th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament will be armed with upwards of two-dozen plus volunteers that could even reach a higher number come Saturday.

“We say thank to all our sponsors and supporters,” the LaFazia-Graham tandem said. “Everyone knows it is going to be a long day, however, we didn’t want to turn any foursome away.”

By the time those record 200 golfers have handed in their scorecards and enjoyed pre-and-post tourney eats and received various awards, the JMCE will put yet a huge dent in its 5-year $100,000 commitment to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, most importantly, for the brave children who are battling cancer and may never get a chance to swing a golf club.
