At a recognition breakfast held last Friday to honor their students’ outstanding achievements, Johnston High School announced and celebrated the top 10 students of the graduating class of 2018.
“We’re very proud of these top 10, high achieving students. This is the first of a number of recognition they’ll receive as we go through the next couple of months. They’re a motivated group, we have a couple that are going to Ivy League schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Bernard DiLullo Jr. “They are a group of students who are mature and on the cusp of adulthood at this point and will make some significant choices in their lives. We’re so proud of their accomplishments and their parents should be proud.”
Continuing a yearly tradition, the event was held in the school’s library and recognized the accomplishments of the students as well as their parents.
“This is to honor the parents, not just the kids. The kids, over the next couple of weeks, will be in the spotlight with all of the upcoming events. We just thought it was important to recognize the parents for their support, support of public education, and support of Johnston’s Schools,” said Principal Dennis Morrell.
Morrell encouraged the soon-to-be graduates to enjoy the moments left in their high school careers and to have fun beyond graduation. He said he knows that, after high school, the students will continue to be self-motivated and focused. Morrell stated that he’s known the students since his days as principal at Ferri Middle School, and is proud to have seen them grow up.
This year’s Top 10 include Giana Aquilante, Aley Blakney, Benjamin Budway, Matthew Eisemann, Philip Jessop Jr., Alyssa Johnson, Yuvia Morales, Lauren Papa, Gabriella Scarcella, and Leah Spirito.
As is tradition, the Sun Rise will feature individual profiles of each of the top 10 students when graduation approaches.
