BREAKING AND ENTERING

Patrolmen Michael A. Schiappa and Nicholas Manocchio responded to Cranston Police Department headquarters on New Year’s Day to take custody of Thomas R. Zarra, 28, 6 Victoria Mount St., Johnston, on a warrant issued from the Johnston Police Department on a charge of felony breaking and entering.

Zarra was later arraigned and released on $10,000 personal recognizance with a Sixth Division District Court date for April 1. Zarra’s arrest stems from an alleged incident on July 22 when Patrolman Robert H. Cardoza responded to a call of a breaking and entering at an address that has been redacted.

The reporting party told Cardoza that he exited the home and at that time all the windows and doors were secure, and Cardoza noted that the residence was then vacant and all of the locks had been changed since it was last occupied.

The victim said he periodically stops at the residence to clean and repair the home prior to its impending sale. Cardoza said the reporting party said he returned home that morning and all the doors and windows were secured and there were no signs of forced entry. The man said that he smelled a strong odor of feces emanating from the basement once entering the home, and noticed water coming out of the drop ceiling. He told Cardoza that he then immediately shut the water off.

The reporting party said that a look at the home boiler system revealed several of the copper pipes had been removed. He searched the residence and found two other pipes had been removed. The suspects were later identified as Thomas Zarra and Michaela A. Zarra, 47, who is listed as homeless in the police report.

Cardoza said a visual inspection of the residence confirmed the victim’s statements, and revealed that the front door had a space between the door and the doorjamb that could lead to an unwanted party gaining access to the residence.

WARRANT

Patrolman Derrick Palazzo responded to the area of Hartford Avenue at Borden Avenue in reference to a man standing in the roadway the evening of Jan. 2.

Upon arrival, Palazzo said he saw Kory Chase, 44, 177 Laban St., Providence, standing in the roadway. Palazzo said Chase told him he was lost and didn’t know what town he was in, thus he was in the road flagging vehicles down.

A check revealed that Chase was wanted on an active Sixth Division District Court warrant for failure to appear for arraignment stemming from a Pawtucket Police Department charge of weapons other than firearms. Chase was placed into custody and transported to Johnston Police Department headquarters where he was processed and later transported to the men’s intake center.

LARCENY

Patrolmen Louis Cotoia and Kevin Brady responded to the women’s holding facility at the ACI on the evening of Dec. 29 to take custody of Sara Fogarty, 29, 14 Grove St., Coventry, who was wanted on a Johnston Police warrant for misdemeanor larceny under $1,500.

Fogarty’s arrest stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred on Sept. 4, when Patrolman Robert H. Cardoza responded to Johnston Police headquarters for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victim told Cardoza she walked to her vehicle and noticed several items were missing, including one navigation unit with a stand, one Bluetooth adapter, one auxiliary cord, one iPhone wireless earbuds set, one debit card and $25 in assorted denominations. The reporting party told Cardoza that her vehicle was located in the rear parking lot of a redacted location on Plainfield Street.

Cardoza said she told him there are digital recording devices that cover the parking area where her vehicle was located, and she presented still photos of a woman looking into her vehicle. Cardoza said she positively identified the woman as Fogarty.
