SHOPLIFTING

Patrolman Nicholas A. Manocchio reports that on the evening of Feb. 16, Rhode Island State Police transported Tyler Sutton, 29, 436 Plain Road, West Greenwich to the Johnston Police Department.

Sutton was wanted on a Johnston Police arrest warrant for a charge of shoplifting. He was also charged with obtaining property under false pretenses, under $500. Sutton was later arraigned and pleaded not guilty before having his surety bail set at $1,000. Sutton was held without with a hearing set for March 2.

Sutton’s arrest came after an alleged incident that occurred on Jan. 30. Detective Thomas Dwyer responded that day to Tractor Supply Co. at 2750 Hartford Ave. in reference to a reported fraud from the business.

Dwyer said he met with the reporting party, who stated that on Jan. 26 a man entered the business around 1:22 p.m., after which he headed toward the aisle which contained the power drills. At that time the male party picked up a tool set valued at $144.44 off the shelf and removed the box set out of the packaging and placed it in his shopping cart.

The reporting party told Dwyer that the man then took a picture of another price tag valued at $54.99 with his cell phone, before throwing the empty box on top of the shield. The man walked to the checkout register located in the front of the store when he explained the item in the carriage was not in the original box, but he took a photo of the price tag that he showed to the store clerk.

A check revealed that Sutton is a residential and commercial contractor that had a suspended registration due to three violations, Dwyer said.

LARCENY

Asst. Detective Cmdr. Meg Boulet and Detective John D. DeAngelis responded to 9 Winona St. in North Providence on the afternoon of Feb. 16 in an attempt to locate Shawn Wolfenden, 30, of the above address, on an arrest warrant for a charge of larceny under $1,500.

After meeting with two North Providence police officers upon arrival, Boulet and DeAngelis took custody of Wolfenden. DeAngelis noted that North Providence officers struggled with Wolfenden as they attempted to seat him inside their cruiser.
