MULTIPLE CHARGES

Patrolman Remy Mendez and Patrolwoman Kayleigh Cooper were dispatched to the Burger King at 1375 Hartford Ave. on the afternoon of Aug. 22 for a report of a male party inside the business who was wanted on a Family Court warrant.

Dispatch advised that the male party – identified as Amauri Razon, 18, 1347 Plainfield St., Johnston – was interviewing with the manager. Upon arrival, Mendez informed Razon that there was an active warrant for his arrest. Mendez said Razon placed his hands in his pockets, ignoring their commands to keep his hands on his head and out of his pockets. Razon then ran in an attempt to avoid apprehension. Mendez said Razon fled down Hartford Avenue and failed to listen to commands from both Mendez and Cooper to “stop.” Mendez said Razon continued to run into the wooded area behind Town Hall Laundromat at 1349 Hartford Ave. before Cooper took him to the ground.

Mendez said he and Cooper engaged in a physical struggle with Razon on the ground in an attempt to gain control of his arms. While attempting to gain control of his arms, Mendez said Razon reached toward his pockets. Fearing he was attempting to reach for a weapon, Mendez said he tased Razon in the back. During deployment, Mendez said Razon continued to resist arrest, failing to listen to commands to place his hands behind his back. Cooper then also tased Razon due to him failing to give his arms up.

Cooper was able to gain control of Razon’s arms and place him in hand restraints. He was later evaluated after the taser deployment. Razon was charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of duty and resisting legal or illegal arrest, as well as a Family Court bench warrant. He was released with a Third Division District Court summons for Sept. 9.

LARCENY

Patrolmen Derick Ofori and Joseph D. Anderson responded to North Smithfield Police Department to take custody of John Blinkhorn, 38, 2774 Hartford Ave., Johnston, on the morning of Aug. 21.

Blinkhorn was wanted on a charge of felony larceny over $1,500 out of the Johnston Police Department. Blinkhorn’s arrest stems from an alleged incident that occurred on the evening of Aug. 20. Patrolman Kevin Brady responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle, and upon arrival spoke with the reporting party. They told Brady that Blinkhorn had come to his home and took the keys to his car. When he asked Blinkhorn to give him the keys back, Blinkhorn went outside, got into the vehicle and left. Brady said the calling party told him that Blinkhorn was not allowed to drive the vehicle in question.

In a supplementary report, Patrolman Viet-Hung Nguyen said that he received a call from North Smithfield Police early in the morning of Aug. 21 in reference to a stolen motor vehicle that was found located in their town. The suspect, Blinkhorn, was placed under arrest for multiple bench warrants, an active Johnston warrant and a charge of disorderly conduct.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

Patrolman Michael A. Protano was dispatched to the area of Button Hole Golf Course for a suspicious vehicle occupied by two people parked off of King Phillip Road on the private property area of their storage garage the morning of Aug. 25.

Upon arrival, Protano said he passed a vehicle parked in said area, noticing a male party behind the vehicle with his trunk open and a female passenger sitting inside the vehicle. Protano said he turned around to head back and detain the vehicle, but it was now traveling toward him.

He and Patrolman Kevin Lyons were able to conduct a motor vehicle stop and speak to the operator, Nelson J. Pires, 22, 117 Laban St., Providence. A check of the Rhode Island Registry showed there was no registration on the vehicle, and a subsequent check revealed Pires’ license to be suspended.

Pires was issued a Third Division District Court summons to appear Sept. 19 on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third offense.
