Rondeau's Kickboxing offering free youth classes in November

Christina Rondeau, who owns a master fifth-degree black belt, has a rather unique pre-holiday offering at her kickboxing school that’s located at 12 Sunnyside Ave. in Johnston.

During the month of November, Rondeau is offering free kids’ classes for youngsters ages 7 to 12 at Rondeau’s Kickboxing.

“We want kids to have a fighting chance and learn how to protect themselves,” Rondeau, who is a professional kickboxer and boxer, said earlier this week. “But, more important, we want them to learn anti-bullying techniques, build their self-confidence and learn how to cope with the anxiety and stress they may have in their days.”

A 2011 inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame, Rondeau went on: “The kids’ program is a mix of kickboxing, self-defense and fitness. We offer it with teaching the youngsters discipline and etiquette, as well.”

Rondeau, who is an author of “Power Plant” and “The Elements of Staying Safe,” has been giving back to the community in many ways. She has helped such groups as the Johnston Memorial Cancer Events and takes pride in being a former USA Kickboxing team member, who enjoyed three international tours, one each in Poland, Italy and Ireland.

“The reason we’re offering these free classes in November is to give families that can’t afford to pay for such extra-curricular classes an opportunity to learn what we’re all about. If we can make a difference in one child’s life, then that’s what we want to do.”
