Lenox leads Lady Knights at NJCAA nationals

The CCRI men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, to compete in the 2017 NJCAA Division III Track and Field National Championships. The Lady Knights tied for 20th with a total of 20 points. The women’s meet was won by Kingsborough Community College with 138 points. The Knights placed 21st with a score of four points. The men’s meet was also won by Kingsborough CC with a total of 161 points.

For the Lady Knights, Allison Lenox (North Kingstown, Rhode Island) led the way with a first-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.21 meters. This effort earned Lenox First Team All-American honors. Lenox also placed fourth in the 400m run with a season-best time of one minute, 2.19 seconds. Victoria Anderson (Manville, Rhode Island) placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 17.16. Anderson returned to place ninth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:15.50.

The Knights’ squad was led by Cristian Figueroa (Providence, Rhode Island), who placed sixth in the 800m run in a time of 2:02.74. Figueroa had run a 2:01.15 the day before in the preliminaries, which was his season-best effort. Lincoln Robinson (Stonington, Connecticut) placed eighth in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:01.62 after having a fall at the 300m mark of the race. Robinson ran a 57.08 in the preliminary the day before, and that was his second-best. Justin Lucier (West Warwick, Rhode Island) placed ninth in the 400m run in a season-best time of 51.70 seconds. Lucier returned to place 15th in the 200m dash in a time of 23.75 seconds.

Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented after the Meet: “It was a good season for the team. Allison will receive a NJCAA First Team All-American award for her triple jump win. All the CCRI athletes put in great efforts and displayed good sportsmanship during the meet.”
