Local 1950, Original Italian Bakery team up to feed front line workers

Members of the Johnston Association of Firefighters Local 1950 recently made sure doctors and nurses at Fatima and Roger Williams hospitals enjoyed a special lunch with the help of Don DePetrillo from The Original Italian Bakery.

“We wanted to thank the doctors and nurses at both hospitals for all they do for the surrounding communities,” said Johnston Fire Battalion Chief Richard Boehem. “Their tireless work through this pandemic does not go unnoticed. They are the true front line heroes.”

Boehm also emphasized the firefighters and The Original Italian Bakery, located on Atwood Avenue, wanted to supply the staff with only the best from the bakery for lunch.

When Boehm went to see bakery owners Don and Alicia, he told them that Local 1950 wanted to buy lunch for the hospital staffs and also explained how much the union had to spend. Almost instantly, the bakery owners said they would double the amount and donate the other half.

“Don and Alicia are two of the most generous people I know,” Boehm went on. “The hospitals had enough for two or three lunches.”
