Montagano shines at Springfield Opener

The Rhode Island College women’s track & field team took home first place in three events as the team competed at the Springfield Opener on Saturday to kick off the 2018-19 season.

THE BASICS

There was no team scoring for the event that featured some of the top teams in the Northeast region.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman Trinity Hayes took first place in the 200m (26.85) and registered a fourth place finish in the 60m (8.27). She also ran a leg of the 4x400m relay (4:17.50) that had a first place finish.

Senior Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) notched a second place finish in the 60m (8.04) and was third in the 200m (27.02).

Junior Emma Landroche (Warwick, RI) was second in the 200m (26.92) and was third in the 60m (8.17). She won the long jump (5.05m) and also ran a leg of the 4x400m relay (4:17.50) that had a first place finish.

Senior Nicole Grammas (Cranston, RI) recorded a fourth place finish in the 200m (27.22) and was fifth in the 60m (8.31).

She also ran a leg of the 4x400 meter relay (4:17.50) that had a first place finish.

Junior Jacklyn Xavier (Cumberland, RI) posted a sixth place finish in the 60m (8.33) and finished seventh in the 200m (27.84). She also ran a leg of the 4x400mrelay (4:17.50) that had a first place finish.

Sophomore Alexandria Montagano (Johnston, RI) notched a sixth place finish in the 200m (27.65) and was eighth in the 60m (8.43). She also had a seventh place finish in the high jump (1.50m) and was fourth in the long jump (4.60m).

Junior Oluwafunmibi Yusuff (Providence, RI) took home first place in the weight throw (15.29m) and was fifth in the shot (10.60m).

Junior Jamie Dobson (Bradford, RI) placed fifth in the weight throw (13.18m), while freshman Florence Flagbote (Providence, RI) posted an 11th place finish in the same event (8.21m).

WHAT’S NEXT

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host its meet at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Saturday, Dec. 8.

The meet is slated to kick off at 10 a.m. and will feature some of the conference’s top athletes.
