Newport Playhouse announces opening of ‘Funny Money’

Posted

On Wednesday, July 10, Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant opens “Funny Money,” directed by Daniel Lee White and written by Ray Cooney.

Henry, a mild-mannered CPA, accidentally picks up the wrong briefcase full of money and decides to keep it. Knowing the former owner must have his briefcase, he rushes home to book a one-way fare to Barcelona and tell his confused wife to leave everything behind. The doorbell rings and the detective at the door thinks Henry was soliciting in the men’s room of the local pub when actually, he was sitting in the loo counting the cash. The bell rings again and another detective arrives thinking Henry is dead; a man with Henry’s briefcase was found in the Thames. Henry’s inept attempts to extricate himself from this impossible situation lead to increasingly hysterical situations.

The talented cast includes; Tony Annicone, Rick Bagley, Pamela Gill, Jim Killavey, Sarah Reed, Sandi Nicastro and James Walsh.
