Jags make noise on mat

Add the names Preston Marchesseault and Joe Castellone to the ever-growing list of Johnston youth athletes who are making quite the name for themselves on the Rhode Island and New England wrestling mat.

For starters, Castellone and Marchesseault are in the eighth and sixth grade, respectively and wrestled this season for the highly-successful Jaguars, both notching fourth place in their respective weight classes after the multi-match and highly-competitive state tournament.

Marchesseault went undefeated in Rhode Island Novice wresting this season and despite being only a sixth grader wrestled his way to fourth place.

He then continued his surge in a large bracket of wrestlers from all over New England and beat back a challenge from a talented field of 20 entries to place third, his only loss being to the eventual winner and thus Marchesseault wound up with a 4-1 record.

The two upstart youth wrestlers, who are not only class and teammates but friends, are members of the well-respected Mayo Quanchi Wrestling Club that’s based in Coventry and run under the guidance of owner-coach Serge Bouyssou.

“Both Preston and Joe have a passion for the sport of wrestling,” a youth wrestling official recently noted. “They’re both looking forward to competing in the Virginia Beach National Youth Wrestling Tournament the end of this month.”
