Pingitore to fight at Twin River Friday

To most people, working for five minutes on three successive occasions would be relative easy.

For Johnston’s Joe Pingitore, though, that segment represents the time span he’ll spend under the Twin River Casino spotlight tomorrow night in a scheduled three-round MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Featherweight Superfight that figures to get underway at 9 o’clock.

Pingitore, who’ll take a 7-2-1 professional MMA record into the three-rounder vs. New York’s Kenny Foster, is the local connection on the Classic Entertainment Sports (CES) 42 Card that’s being coordinated by famed boxing promoter and one-time noted restaurateur Jimmy Burchfield.

Ironically, the bout – one of many on tomorrow night’s card at Twin River Casino – is also part of CES’ 25th year in professional boxing and MMA events.

The 5-foot-8, 144-pound Pingitore, who compiled an impressive 12-4 amateur record, will use his 69-inch reach for his 11th professional MMA bout.

Pingitore, who is a 2009 JHS graduate and one-time Panther football player, will be hoping to live up to his MMA nickname of “Lights Out” vs. his New York opponent tomorrow night. He trains at Tri-Force Gym in Pawtucket. Tickets are still on sale by calling (401) 724-2253.
