ASSAULT

On Sept. 21 at approximately 1:00 p.m. Patrolman Michael Schiappa met with a reporting party at police headquarters who reported an assault that had taken place at 20 Park Plaza.

The reporting party said that a female, identified as Awilda Acevedo, 50, of 20 Park St. Apt. #122 in Johnston, had screamed in his face and used profanity towards him, then struck him in the face and continued screaming before going into her apartment.

A video taken by other residents of the housing complex corroborated the victim’s statement and that video was forwarded to detectives. The victim wished to press charges on Acevedo.

Multiple officers went to Acevedo’s home and located her, then placed her under arrest for Simple Assault and Disorderly Conduct. She was transported to police headquarters where she was placed in a holding cell.

COUNTERFEIT BILLS

On Sept. 22 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Patrolman Michael Schiappa responded to Ciara restaurant for the report of counterfeit bills being passed.

The manager said that a suspect had paid for his bar bill with a counterfeit $20 bill and left the restaurant before any of the staff noticed.

The patrolman was later called back to the restaurant when the same man came in again and placed him under arrest for attempting to pay with counterfeit bills.

The man was identified as Matthew Mekuto, 39, of 6 Springfield St. in Johnston. Mekuto was charged with three felonies: Passing of Counterfeit Bills, Possession of a Counterfeit Bill, and Passing of Counterfeit Bills for another instance.

DRIVING WITH EXPIRED/SUSPENDED LICENSE

On Sept. 20 around 10:31 a.m. James Dionne, 20, of 513 Woonasquatucket Ave. in North Providence was arrested for Driving with Expired License – 1st Offense by Patrolman Michael Schiappa after Dionne was involved in a motor vehicle accident. He was given court summons.

On Sept. 20 at approximately 9:25 a.m. Markentosh Breton, 23, of 3 Birchtree Dr. in Johnston, was charged with Driving after Denial/Revocation/Suspension – 1st Offense after Patrolman Remy Mendez pulled him over on Cherry Hill Rd. and he was driving without an active license. He was given court summons and his car was towed from the scene.

On Sept. 20 at approximately 7:50 p.m. Captain Mark Vieira was patrolling Hartford Ave. when he pulled over a car for speeding and not using its turn signal.

The driver originally gave the Captain a false name via an international driver’s license. Upon checks, the driver’s real name was found to be Dellvi Renberto Reyes Montufar, 30, of 15 Linwood Ave. Apt. #2 in Providence.

Further checks revealed that Montufar was driving without a license. He was charged with Obstructing an Officer in Execution of Duty, Driving without a License – 1st Offense, and Giving False Document to Agent, Public Official. He was transported to police headquarters and later released with a court summons.
