Regular season champs

“Maybe it was in the cards,” mused a Johnston Little League Baseball fan as he talked about the Ward, Fisher & Company LLP-sponsored Cardinals staking claim to the regular season championship. “Now, the real fun starts.”

Everyone from Manager Michael DeLima to the 11-preteens who made up the 2019 Cardinals was speaking about the JLL’s upcoming series that will feature all six Major Division teams that will play for the coveted Town Championship.

But first, DeLima wanted it known that the Cardinals are proud of their regular season crown by way of some good, old-fashioned baseball and the combined efforts of kids who played a year ago with newcomers who jelled into a championship caliber cohesive unit.

“It was amazing seeking kids who played on the Cardinals last year taking leadership roles and helping their new teammates with some of their experiences,” DeLima offered. “These kids were dedicated, confident, determined and they worked extremely hard to reach this (regular season) championship level.”

DeLima also pointed out, “The kids believed in themselves and showed how to have fun as a team even when it got tough at times during the regular season.”

Moreover, DeLima – along with his coaches Matt Clements, Paul Scorpio and John Amaral - were particularly proud of the sportsmanship the Cardinals players displayed on and off the field this season.

“We were one big baseball family,” DeLima went on. “And that includes grandparents … everyone that supported our kids on their way to the regular season championship.”
