Renkens to speak tonight about sports recruiting realities

The old adage “best things in life are free” doesn’t always hold water.

However, there will be a free program of the highest importance beginning at 7 p.m. tonight inside the Johnston High School Auditorium that may help chart the course of a student-athletes life.

“It’s a program that will run approximately 50 minutes that will reveal the real stories and process behind college recruiting,” Keith Cory, the JHS Athletic Director, said yesterday while issuing a reminder about tonight’s program.

The keynote speaker will be Jack Renkens, who has used his personal experiences as a coach, athletic director and parent while traveling around the country presenting programs on behalf of his unique and personally-founded company known as Recruiting Realities.

“We’re really excited about having Jack Renkens come to Johnston,” Cory said. “He’s coached at all levels from high school, junior college and college and has held these sorts of programs for 20 years and he’ll be in town for free.”

Renkens, whose athletic tenure featured a highly-successful stay at Assumption College in Worcester as the head basketball coach and athletic director, is one of the most sought after speakers in the country and has over 3,500 seminars to his credit.

Cory issued a blanket invitation to JHS students and their parents to take in tonight’s program and get a strong dose of reality about the world of college recruiting.

“Jack founded Recruiting Realities for the express purpose of debunking the myths and presenting the facts about athletic recruiting for student athletes, their families, coaches and school counselors,” said Cory. “Jack’s 50-minute program promises to be eye-opening for all those people who attend.”

Renkens program has been featured at schools across the United States and he’s also enjoyed television audiences and appearing at sports camps from coast to coast to deliver an important message that tonight will be, in short, “It’s a game…Know the rules!”

Tonight’s program will be of high interest for those high school athletes who are serious about continuing to play sports at the junior college or collegiate levels. As attendees will learn, a student-athlete and his or her parents it’s never too early to start planning.

Moreover, as people will learn from Renkens’ presentation, most students don’t know the recruiting game, NCAA rules or how to get matched with the best colleges for them.

As noted, the program will begin at 7 p.m. tonight inside the JHS auditorium that’s located at 345 Cherry Hill Road.
