Gentian Garden Club

The Gentian Garden Club is excited to start their activities and programs for the 2017-2018 program year. They have had a wonderful, relaxing recess during the summer months when they worked on our gardens and are now sharing the bounty with family, friends and neighbors.

The September meeting will be held at the North Scituate Community House on Tuesday, Sept. 19.  The program is being presented by Gentian member Elaine DiChiara and is entitled, “An Introduction to Ikebana Floral Design”.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. It is more than simply putting flowers in a container and is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing a closeness with nature.  Elaine is a Sogetsu Ikebana Instructor and she will share insights into what Ikebana is today.  Please join in for a fun evening of traditional and contemporary Ikebana. There will be a small fee for visitors and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.

The Gentian Garden Clubs Fall Plant Sale will be held on September 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.  The sale will include locally grown perennials, shrubs, herbs and native plants from member’s gardens.  If you feel your garden could use some new or different perennials, please come and shop. The sale will be held at the North Scituate Community House, 546 West Greenville Rd. (Rt. 116), North Scituate. If there is no rain it will be held outside and if it rains the meeting will be inside the Community House.

If you have any questions, please contact membership chairperson, Nancy Laurie at her email gentryway@cox.net or by phone 401-647-5966.
