Holiday Bazaar at St. Bellarmine Church

The 11th Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Nov. 10 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church Hall (2804 Atwood Ave. in Johnston) from noon to 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 to 8 p.m. Among the many booths will be baked goods, vendor tables, handcrafted goods, dollar deals, raffles, and silent auction items. They will hold their popular straw game, which will offer lots of great prizes. Food will be available, so come for lunch or dinner. All team proceeds will benefit the St. Robert Bellarmine Food Shelf. For more information call Sandy at 946-3262.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Awakening Church in Providence will soon be distributing 1,000 bags of Thanksgiving groceries and raffling off turkeys to the Providence community. They will also provide face painting for the kids on Saturday, November 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Frank D. Spaziano Elementary School, 85 Laurel Hill Ave., Providence, and again on Saturday, November 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the Providence Career & Technical Academy,41 Fricker St., Providence.

PVMS 5K on Veteran’s Day

Held in Roger Williams Park across from Park View Middle School in Cranston, the 6th Annual 2018 Park View Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Kids Run is an annual event is designed to bring honor and recognition to Veterans Day. Proceeds from the event will benefit programs for the school throughout the year and as a means of giving back to a worthwhile cause, Operation Stand Down RI.

One Mile Kids Run! This event will take place in the Park on a specially designed course! This race will begin at 8:30 a.m. The race is open to all elementary and middle school students. Cost for this race is $10 per person and a T-shirt goes to the first 50 entries for this race. Start and finish of the 5K race at the Park Avenue entrance to Roger Williams Park across from Park View Middle School.

T-shirts to the first 600 entries for the 5K race. Post-race food and beverages. Awards are given to the top male and female finisher. Awards to the top 2 men and women in each division: 8th grade and under, high school division, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80.

Packet Pick up at Park View Middle School Gym: Friday, November 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. Race day registration and pickup begins at 7 a.m.

Johnston Historical Society

November 10, 2018, is Yard Cleanup Day at the Johnston Historical Society from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Many hands make light work, so they say. Please lend your hands and help spruce up the yard around the Elijah Angell House and our museum barn. BYOR (Bring Your Own Rake)!

Their museum barn is open Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 2 to 5 p.m.; or by appointment, for those who would like to visit the museum or examine the society's collection of printed materials. Just in case, call ahead to confirm they are there. Dues are $20 per year for an individual, $30 per year for a family (two adults and children under 18) membership. The purpose of the JHS is to identify, preserve and promote the history of our town. It is located at 101 Putnam Pike in Johnston and can be reached by calling 231-3380.

Ms. or Jr. Miss Wheelchair applications now being accepted

Do you have what it takes to be the next Ms. or Jr Miss wheelchair Rhode Island? Must be 5-15 years of age for Jr. Miss and 21 years or older for Ms. and for both categories, applicants much use a wheelchair 100% of the time in public. This is not a beauty pageant, instead a competition of advocacy, education and making a difference and empowering the state to make positive change. Book Sales

Members of the Friends plan and run book sales and carry out other fundraising activities to allow Mohr Library to increase services and programs. The Friends welcome new members who are willing to support either through donations, membership dues, or through volunteering their time. To find out more, contact them, or call the library director at 231-4980 (press 7).

There is an ongoing book sale in the lower level hall across from the meeting room. The Friends also hold larger sales two or three times a year. Great selections at great prices include hard cover and paperback books, fiction and non-fiction, for adults, children, and young adults. Most prices range from $.25 to $2. The Friends are a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, with proceeds from fundraising supporting library programs and services. Donations of gently used books are appreciated and can be left at the library's main desk during library hours. Receipts for tax purposes are available.

Exciting programming for children at the Mohr Library

A Sing-Along with Mr. Rowland for all ages with a grown-up. Dance and sing along with family favorites and best loved holiday songs on Tuesdays, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11 at the Mohr Library.

On Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m., children will be able to build a catapult. Try building the different models of catapults to find which works best.

On the second Thursdays: Nov. 8, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. come build with 10,000 plus Lego bricks, donated by Lego Systems. Ages 5 and up with an adult. No need to register.

Drop-In Family Crafts will be held every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from now   through the end of June. This will feature several self-directed projects for children and parents to do together. (Craft Programs are not appropriate for children under 3 as small parts might present a hazard.)

Teen Arts & Crafts Club will meet every Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. Love arts & crafts? Join in each week to make something new and express yourself. We will paint, collage, draw, sculpt, and use paper, textiles, natural objects and recyclables to create all different works to take home. Each week make something new! 20 spaces available. Teen Dungeons & Dragons Club will be held every Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Dungeons & Dragons for Teens is a cooperative role-playing game recently made famous in Stranger Things. Teens create their own characters & play out a story together. We will be beginning a new storyline called Storm King’s Thunder, where adventurers battle giants. Teen Chess Club will meet every Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Mohr.  Join them for the classic strategy game Chess. Battle your friends or test your wits against the librarian! Don’t know how to play? No problem they can teach you! The rules are simple, the opportunities endless. Practice all your strategies here while relaxing away from the heat. 20 spaces available.
