Why we need a Green New Deal

Posted

To the Editor:

Climate change is happening here and now – and as a young person, I'm terrified. I'm 20 years old and am afraid for the kind of world I will grow into and the world that my children will have to face in 2100 and beyond.

I'm concerned about the frontline communities already experiencing the worst effects of climate change and the imbalances of power that led to this crisis only reproducing themselves as the Global South industrializes.

The latest climate report from the UN says we have only 12 years to transform our economy to preserve the stable climate human civilization has depended on for millennia. We need a massive mobilization of every sector of society on par with what science and justice demand.

A Green New Deal will keep Americans safe from climate change and create millions of green jobs. It is common sense policy that is overwhelmingly popular with American people, regardless of political party or where they live.

Any presidential candidate who wants to be taken seriously on climate and earn the support of young people needs to support Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Markey's resolution.

Wow! At 20 years old you have already researched and read all there is to know about this topic. Beware, you should read, read, and read more about this topic. Become a critical thinker. Most of all--FOLLOW THE MONEY. See the green jobs your talking about and the people investing in them who want to make millions. It will tell you more about what is being told to us. One more thing. If you were standing where you are now 10,000 years ago there would be thousands of feet of ice above you. Good thing the ice melted. Just saying.

    Dear Mat,

What is obvious from this letter is that you have never taken a geology class. What is also obvious based upon your age is that most likely you have never paid a tax and understood how the financial system in this country works. Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been in an airplane? If so, forget about ever traveling that way again according to the Ridiculous Green Deal. Ever want to go to Hawaii? Have fun taking the train or swimming there. When they implement the new green deal, and the US is the only idiots that participate, how do you think that will effect global climate change?

    Please read a geology book.

BTW, MrP, your point is well taken, however, the Laurentide glacier moved across the eastern seaboard 14,000 years ago. It left some wonderful moraines that we enjoy here. Such as Block Island, Long Island, the islands of Narragansett Bay, and the Cape Islands. Thank God for the Ice Age.

This author is why young folks shouldn't vote. To think the world will end in 12 years. To think a body like the UN would reveal it has a crystal ball and knows the 'time and manner' that the bible says is impossible. To think our young minds are filled with craziness at schools.

    Matt,

You don't have to worry. There's not a chance in hell that you'll find a woman to have a child with.
