The Winsor Hill Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization put its bet foot forward for Friday night’s Color Run.
Christina Senno, who serves as the PTO’s vice president, did what president Gina Schino called an “amazing job” in coordinating the Color Run, which included music, raffle, prizes, food and much more.
The family event was part of a fundraising effort for the school that has raised more than $3,500 to date.
“A great time was had by all,” Schino said. “Our families created more wonderful memories while bonding with their friends and classmates.”
Some parents, Schino mused, “just may have had more fun then the children.”
Take Alicia Santilli and Shannon Cartwright, for example.
“They were ever so enthusiastic at the color station,” Schino said of Santilli and Cartwright, who consistently tossed cornstarch that was topped with food coloring on each and every one of the runners that came their way at one point on the Color Run course. “They loved tossing that corn starch and so did the kids.”
Schino also heaped words of praise upon Susan Parillo, Winsor Hill’s popular physical education/health teacher, who designed the color run course and “as always was such a great help to the PTO.”
Despite the weather, which featured a slight drizzle at the 4:30 p.m. check-in time, the event had sponsors like ReBath, Walgreens and the Johnston Fire Department. Several firefighters brought Engine 3 to the elementary school grounds, and some of the kids had their picture taken by or on the vehicle.
Students collected donations from family and friends and completed laps around the school as they were doused with colored cornstarch at four different stations.
Moo Mobile was also on site and provided a donation back to the PTO while Ray Arruda did what Schino called “an awesome job as our DJ and he even entertained the students and engaged with them in games as well as competitions.”
