Free Lenten Soup Supper

There will be a free Lenten Soup Supper, sponsored by the Daughters of Isabella, St. Benedict Circle #423, and St. Benedict Church every Friday evening during Lent at 6 p.m. in the St. Benedict School on Transit St. Followed by Stations of the Cross in the church beginning Feb. 27 through April 3. Join them in the spirit of friendship and camaraderie in this Lenten season.

Join the Cribbage Action

Garden Club

The Chatham Village Garden Club will meet March 3 at 7 p.m. at the EBC House. Type of meeting will be a workshop to make bookmarks for the plant sale in May. Bring tweezers and pressed flowers.

Tech Nite

New England Institute of Technology has rescheduled the college's "Tech Nite" to March 3 from 4-8 p.m. Tech Nite follows an open house format, allowing individuals who may be interested in studying at the college an opportunity to tour the campus, speak with faculty and admissions personnel and to look into the many financial aid options available. Benefit Dinner

A benefit dinner featuring special entertainment provided by singer/song writer Dan Mills from Brooklyn, N.Y., candlelight dinner, music, silent auction and raffle. Alex Coates Returns

On March 6 at 8:57 p.m., Alex Coates will be returning to Warwick after two years of missionary service in Monterrey, Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Coates, a 2005 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School, will be flying into T.F. Green on Continental Flight 5848 and his family invites friends, classmates and neighbors to welcome him home at the airport that evening.

AAA Travel Marketplace

Free Movie

Fireproof<$>, a free movie, will be shown at the Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave., on March 7 at 7 p.m. Adults in the viewing area are invited to attend. VOWS

Celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Week with VOWS April 19-25. If you know of a VOWS volunteer in your school that deserves consideration as one of the volunteers of the year, submit their name to your school's VOWS coordinator. All honorees will be recognized at the annual awards reception at Potowomut Golf Club on April 23. Save the date. The district-wide dress-down day is Friday, April 24.

Free Workshop Series

There is still time to register for "Talking to Kids About Tough Stuff,” the second in a series of workshops sponsored by the Warwick Coalition to Prevent Child Abuse. The workshop will be held March 12 from 6:30-8 p.m. in Room 101 at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane. Advance registration is required and space is limited to the first 100 registrants. Brown Alumnae

The Brown Alumnae Club of Kent County will hold its spring meeting March 13 at the Sonoma Grille, on Post Road at the corner of Camp Ave., North Kingstown, from 12-2 p.m. The guest speaker will be visual artist and musician Brown Professor Ed Osborn. Irish Night

Charity Ball

Join the Rhode Island State Council Knights of Columbus at their 80th Annual Charity Ball to be held March 21 at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick. A cocktail reception will be held at 7 p.m., dinner at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person or a table of 10 for $375. Book Sale

The Friends of the Warwick Public Library will their semi-annual book sale on March 27 between 6-9 p.m. for members only (new members are welcome) March 28 between 9 a.m.-3 pm. and March 29 between 1-4 p.m. They have a great selection of books, videos, puzzles and CDs. Book bags will also be available. A Silent Auction Art Sale. Art works can be seen at the library for two weeks before the sale.

Developmental Screening Clinics

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources. VOWS Seeks Volunteers

The Volunteers of Warwick Schools (VOWS) is recruiting volunteers to help out in Warwick public school classrooms and in the implementation of programs for children during the school year. Volunteering for as little as one hour a week can make a difference in the lives of Warwick schoolchildren. The need for volunteers is greater than ever. VOWS is a non-profit corporation dedicated to meeting the educational needs of Warwick's public school children. In addition to assisting in the classrooms, volunteers help implement Child Outreach Developmental Screening, Heads Up and Kids on the Block Puppets. House of Hope Boutique Originals

Turn your old belongings into something new and creative. The House of Hope Boutique Originals (HOHBO) is in search of materials to produce decorative cloth bags to be sold throughout Rhode Island. Join in supporting HOHBO by donating items such as fabrics, beads, costume jewelry, sewing needles, and thread. HOHBO is also in need of new sewing machines. HOHBO is a social and employment development program designed to give women residents from the House of Hope housing facilities an opportunity to express themselves positively through creativity and to provide a structured environment in which to accomplish a concrete goal. HOHBO products include decorative wine gift bags, pouched, and purses that are then sold throughout various locations in Rhode Island communities. Domestic Violence Volunteers

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center (EBCC) is currently seeking volunteers for their Speakers Bureau. All volunteers will be trained to provide outreach, as a representative of EBCC, to communities in their service area through attendance at health and community fairs and by fulfilling requests for informational speaking engagements. Volunteers will receive thorough and specialized training under the supervision of the agency services coordinator before beginning this work. Donate Shop Thrift Store

The Donate Shop is in desperate need of sheets, blankets, puffs, towels and all other linen and house wares such as dishes, pots and pans, etc. They service over 40 agencies with free items. The need has become greater and they can't get by without your help. They give tax receipts for donations. The Donate Shop Thrift Store is open to the public on Wednesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. For more information call 738-6663.

Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Fife & Drum Corps

Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. The Fife & Drum Corps meets every Wednesday night at Wyman Elementary School from 6:30-8 p.m. The corps is open to anyone over the age of 12. Drum and fife instruction is available to beginners.

GED Tutoring

The JONAH Center is offering free small group tutoring sessions to help in earning a high school equivalency (GED). Sessions are held Tuesday evenings, from 6:30-8 p.m. Call JONAH at 739-1305 for information.

Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group

Meets the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Conference Room, 7th floor, of the Ambulatory Patient Care Building, Rhode Island Hospital, Gay St., Providence.
