Volunteers needed to Staff H1N1 clinics

The Rhode Island Department of Health is seeking medical professionals to volunteer to assist with the H1N1 vaccination campaign for school-aged children. It is expected that students in grades Kindergarten through 12 will be vaccinated in school clinics in November. “We will need to vaccinate students at some 430 public, private and parochial schools,” said Dr. Robert S. Crausman, MD, MMS, chief of the Center for Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases. “This effort is a massive undertaking. We are asking health professionals and nursing, medical or pharmacy students who can help with vaccinations to consider volunteering their time. We have had a great response so far, but we need more volunteers.” Any health professional or student interested in volunteering can and must register at www.riresponds.org. Use the button that says, “Register today.” All volunteers are required to attend a training session before giving vaccinations. All trainings sessions are given at 50 Barnett Lane, West Greenwich. Volunteer recruitment and management is coordinated by RI Responds. RI Responds is a collaborative effort between HEALTH, RI Disaster Medical Assistance Team and Rhode Island Medical Reserve Corps.
