Robert L. Coleman, affectionately known as “Bob”, “Big Bob”, and “Frog”, 69, of Rotunda West, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, with his family by his side. Born in Atlanta, Georgia he was the son of the late Walter K. and Winnifred G. (Catley) Coleman. Robert had lived in Cranston for 53 years before moving to Florida in 2015.

Robert spent some time learning the ropes before taking over his fathers’ business, the W.K. Coleman Company, working as a manufacturers’ representative for over 38 years. Always an entrepreneur and having a dream of opening a restaurant, Robert co-owned The Galley in North Kingstown, operating from 1999 to 2003 as well as Christopher’s Cranston Deli & Pub from 2010 to 2015.

In addition to his professional life, Robert had a multitude of interests that brought him joy over the years. He enjoyed fishing, racquetball, golfing, and hosting his annual 3rd of July parties where you could find him working the charcoal grill for hours in his American flag shirt. He was a generous soul, devoted to helping anyone in any way that he could. A lifetime member of the Elks Club, Robert also belonged to organizations such as the Moose Lodge and the Crazy Eights. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time at his favorite local spots in Englewood, Florida accompanied by his loyal companion Thor, a Harlequin Great Dane.

Those who knew Bob will remember his notable presence, good humor, and quick wit, that made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Robert is survived by his daughters Susan Swiech and her husband Keith, Lisa Iarossi and her husband David, his sons John Coleman and David Coleman, and his sister Sharon Coleman. He was the beloved grandfather of Brady and Sharlotte “Charlie”.

A Celebration of Life to which all friends and family are invited to attend will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus, 70 Pettaconsett Avenue, Cranston.

In remembrance of Robert’s life and love, the family asks that any charitable contributions be made to the Special Olympics RI.
