Classic flavor at special car cruise

When is a classic car cruise more than just a show of vintage vehicles?

When you add music, merriment and fantastic foods, it’s a celebration that could draw lots of attention from people of all ages.

Such was the case last Wednesday evening, when The Bridge at Cherry Hill hosted a unique car cruise as part a celebration in honor of National Assisted Living Week.

“This year’s theme was ‘Nourishing Life: Mind, Body and Spirit,’” said Maryann Grace, executive director at the Johnston facility. “The staff had as much fun as our residents. They also made the night extra special in a number of ways.”

First and foremost, the staff decided to bring back the 1950s for the cruise. “And many of our people dressed in all kinds of ’50s dress,” Grace said.

A few staffers went the extra mile, dressing and serving as old-time car hops.

Grace, who was also dressed in ’50s garb, added: “The car cruise is one of our favorite events. The residents love it because it brings back to many memories of when they were young, and the stories they can tell are priceless.”

In the middle of all the excitement was The Bridge’s well-known music man, a.k.a. Frank Castle, who treated residents, staffers and visitors to what Grace called “songs that everyone here can identity with and dating back to those days of a bygone era.”
