Even after graduating seven eighth-graders from last year’s team, the Ferri Middle School softball team secured a spot in the postseason for a second-straight year last week.
Ferri’s current eighth graders include Emily Raposo, Kelsey Scott, Sophia DaCosta, Samantha Febus, Halie Phipps, Brittany Mollicone, Maleah Thayorath and Madison Scungio.
The sixth and seventh-graders on this year’s team include Megan Philbrick, Brynn Roche, Victoria Marchesi, Tori Viau, Michaela Healy, Julia Costa, Jenni Aubin, Emecily Rodriguez, Madison Dannenfelser, Caroline Howe, Morgan Plouffe, Megan Ranucci, Abby Cleases and Kaylin Zalewski.
Nelson claims Class C title in discus throw
Johnston’s Kyle Nelson won the discus throw on Saturday at the Class C Championships with a throw of 133.9 feet.
Nelson also placed second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 40.10 feet.
Nelson wasn’t the only Johnston sophomore who encountered success in the discus, though.
Fellow sophomore Evan Pennacchia placed fifth at the Class C Championships, as well.
