Dinosaurs at Mohr

Life-size dinosaurs will be featured at the Mohr Library on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and Dinoman takes the audience on a magical ride through the Mesozoic Era. This high energy show features incredible props, and life-size dinosaurs. Free tickets for this program will be available beginning Aug. 1. This program is made possible by “The Andrew Greene Memorial Fund.

St. Bartholomew’s Feast

It is almost time for St. Bartholomew’s Feast to take place on the church grounds at 297 Laurel Hill Ave. on Aug. 9 from 5 to 10 p.m.; Aug. 10 from 3 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 10 p.m.

The feast will specializes in Italian, American, & Spanish foods, doughboys, homemade pastries and desserts, carnival rides and games by Amron Family Fun Fare and nightly musical entertainment. For more information call 944-4466.

Women & Wine Summer Soiree

Ladies, join the North Central Chamber of Commerce for a tasting of delicious wines, Charcuterie, sweets and more, and enjoy a tour of the vineyards and back room of Nickle Creek Vineyards, on Aug. 13. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the vineyard, located at 12 King Rd. in Foster. There will be fantastic raffles and everyone will receive a complimentary souvenir wine glass. This relaxing summer event is open to all, so bring your friend, spouse, or whoever makes you laugh and have a wonderful evening with the North Central Chamber of Commerce. At the Johnston

Senior Center

The Johnston Senior Center has started up some new classes which include Mahjong classes which are held every Thursday morning at 10 a.m. “Stampin Up,” a class where you make your own beautiful greeting cards, is held the last Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Beginning Aug. 1 the center will be offering an acrylic painting class on canvas at 10:30 a.m. and the series of classes will be held every other week for a total of 5 classes. The center is also looking for more people to join their Knit & Crochet Group that is held on Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

The center has also expanded their Bingo with buildup to three times per week and they now have Bingo on Mon., Thurs. and Fri. nights beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the exception of Bingo on Thursday afternoon that will begin at 1:15 p.m.

Upcoming trips include Saratoga & Lake George Cruise on August 5-6, Gillette Castle and lunch at the Griswold Inn on August 20th and Atlantic City at the Trump Taj Mahal on Aug. 26-28. This coming Aug. 8 at 11 a.m., Treasurer Gina Raimondo along with Lisa Gallent from Capitol Good Fund will be offering free financial coaching at the Senior Center.

Final free summer

field trip

The final stop in the North Central Chamber of Commerce’s free Summer Field Trip Series will be held on Aug. 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Rhode Island State Police Headquarters located at 311 Danielson Pike in N. Scituate.

Take a tour of the Rhode Island State Police Headquarters and see the barracks, State Police Museum and much more. This will be a great opportunity for all ages to see what goes on at the State Police Headquarters. Register for any or all of these tours by calling the North Central Chamber at 349-4674.

Did You Know?

Did you know that August, in 8 BC Sextilis (sixth month) as it was then, was renamed in honor of first Roman Emperor Augustus. The month was also lengthened from 30 days to 31 so that Augustus’s month equaled Julius Caesar’s July.
