Cocktails & Casino event hits the jackpot for The Autism Project

It was a casino night for the ages, and for a good cause.

Realtor Jarrod Lewis of the J. Christopher Real Estate Group coordinated and hosted the Cocktails & Casino Night event to raise awareness – as well as revenue – for The Autism Project.

It was fitting that Saturday night’s fundraiser was attended by many Johnstonians, as The Autism Project is located in town at 1516 Atwood Ave.

“This is tremendous,” said Johnston Historial Society vice president Dan Brown, who attended with his wife, Nancy, and was overwhelmed with the “fantastic turnout of people,” especially dozens of folks from in and around Johnston. “[Jarrod] always does a great job with events for nonprofits.”

The Autism Project – a collaboration of parents, professionals and community members dedicated to providing quality support, training and programming – is dear to Lewis’ heart.

“I’m a big supporter of the center and do what I can to help raise awareness for the services they provide,” Lewis said. “That’s why my entire real estate team will donate 100 percent of tonight’s profits to The Autism Project.”

Although no official dollar total was available – because, as Lewis pointed out, “credit card receipts and check still have to be counted” – Saturday night’s Cocktails & Casino event was a smashing success and filled the Warwick-based Crowne Plaza Hotel’s ballroom and lobby.

Joanne G. Quinn, executive director of The Autism Project, and senior development manager Kristen Steiner were also “tremendously impressed” with the night’s offerings.

“Jarrod and his real estate group should be proud,” Dan Brown offered while viewing the 16 framed items of Boston sports memorabilia that were part of a silent auction. “I don’t think they left any stone unturned as far as prizes are concerned.”

Cocktails & Casino Night also featured luxury raffle items such as a diamond Movado watch, 18-year scotch with a crystal decanter and a Mac laptop.

Lewis, meanwhile, was thrilled with each and every aspect of Cocktails & Casino Night and made sure he thanked as many people as possible for attending.

When asked it he had a favorite part of the night, Lewis simply smiled and offered: “Yes, I’m excited the about the live auction for paintings done by the kids at the center.”
