GCC hosts annual Veterans Day golf outing

The recent Veterans Day Memorial Golf Tournament was a show of respect and more from a host of adult volunteers, generous business owners and even a group of third grade school students.
“The tournament was great,” Chairman Vin LaFazia offered while noting there was even a waiting list. “The response was overwhelming.”
Thus, 72 golfers teed off at famed Glocester Country Club after enjoying a bountiful breakfast and after playing nine holes, they were served a dinner with refreshments.
Each of the golfers received a memorial marker and Veterans Day sweatshirt and the dinner was provided by major sponsors David and Judi Graham of Graham Builders and as LaFazia emphasized “we couldn’t have done this without their support as well as the entire staff of Glocester Country Club.”
Likewise, committee members Mary and Jesse Wiggins, Robin McFadden, Cheryl Jason, Linda and Vin LaFazia worked hard to make this the best Veterans Day Golf Tourney ever.
What everyone also called “a mighty tribute to all our veterans” was also bolstered by the tireless dedication of people like Joe Casale, Eric Gelsomino, Al Gizzarelli and Al Gizzarelli Jr. who prepared the breakfast that included sandwiches, donuts, Danish and coffee.
One of the day’s highlights was the unique cart markers with each veteran’s name and a message from students in Robin McFadden’s third grade class that thanked the vets for their service and as LaFazia wanted it known “they were all touched by the special message.”
“We would be remiss if we did not thank all the people who stepped up and sponsored each veteran golfer,” LaFazia offered. “We could not have done it without our volunteers, forecaddies, our golf pro Shane Druey and groundskeeper Nick Powers along with their staffs.”
The “great day” as people called the list of tourney events, concluded with a raffle that will benefit the highly acclaimed Wreaths Across America that is based at Ponaganset High School and Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
