WARWICK SHOWCASE

SHE CAME TO ME
* * * ½
(Quirky Black Dramady)

If you are tired of formula movies and want something that is just a bit outlandish, funny and quirky, go see this delightful little film.

You know you are in for something different when you meet Stephen and Patricia (Peter Dinklage and Anne Hathaway). She is his therapist. He is a composer of contemporary operas.

She is gorgeous, tall and thin, and dressed to the hilt. He is frumpy, with an unkempt beard and out-of-control hair.

They are husband and wife.

He is suffering from writer’s block and depression.

She sends him out for a walk. He ends up in a bar where he meets the captain of a tugboat (Marisa Tomei). She takes him on a tour of the boat, and they end up in her cabin.

He is inspired and writes an opera about his experience, which is well received, curing his depression but kindling other feelings. She becomes obsessed with him.

Meanwhile, their 18-year-old son becomes sexually involved with their housekeeper’s 16-year-old daughter, causing complications among the families.

There’s more, but I’ll save the surprises and the incredible ending for you to discover.

If you like quirky, you will want to see this movie.

BECKHAM
* * * *
(Documentary)

This revealing documentary of the personal and professional life of soccer (excuse me, football) international star David Beckham and his Spice Girl wife is told by Beckham himself and enhanced by the media and the football-crazed sports fans.

First, Beckham had an unbelievable career, unmatched by any athlete.

Second, the series reveals the bloodthirsty actions of soccer fans, especially in England and Spain.

How the couple survived their marriage and their lives is beyond belief.
