Seniors stepping up

The Johnston Senior Center is participating in the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Step Up Challenge, with its eyes set on winning a $2,500 grant. The event will kick off with a ceremony at Lincoln Woods State Park in Lincoln, starting at 10 a.m. on Sept. 5 Senior centers from all over the state will be represented. Seniors who are on Blue Cross have received a Fitbit, while those who are not are given pedometers to track their steps every day. They will fill out a sheet once a week with step counts, and the senior center that totals the most steps will take home the grant.
