This article is a continuation of last week’s coverage of Warwick Junior Hockey.

The Warwick Junior Hockey Association had a big winter season, seeing three teams hoist South Coast Hockey League Championships.

Two of the teams included the 14-U squad as well as the 12-U team.

The key to success for each club this winter was chemistry. The players developed a strong connection both on and off the ice which allowed them to hit the ground running and emerge as the state’s top units.

“Hard work, teamwork, and camaraderie. They get along well together and those are the key ingredients,” said 14-U coach Joe Cavanagh, who was proud of his team’s commitment to the game these past few months. “It’s a great opportunity that these kids have to come to Thayer and Warburton, work hard and improve as players. It’s been a good experience for this team this year.”

The 12-U squad lost its first game of the season to their crosstown rivals. However, the players would rebound to pull off 20 straight wins to set up the big run to the championship.

“I told them just to believe in themselves, believe in the process, and they did and it worked. From (the opening day loss), the kids bonded and everyone developed well,” said 12-U coach Mike King. “Going into the playoffs, we were riding high and the kids did what they had to do and executed. They came alive and won.”

King also stressed the importance of team chemistry as well as having fun each day throughout the long season.

“From day one we had a good time, they love playing hockey. This group is always having fun on the ice, always working hard to get better, asking questions. This group improved so much over the course of the year,” said King.

Members of the 14-U squad included: Benjamin Botham, Caleb Carpenter, Luke Cavanagh, Colin Delprete, Steven DiRuzzo, Mason Horsman, Matthew Horsman, Camden King, Zachary Kowalik, John Mancini, Ethan Mowbray, Johan Nawrocki, Aiden Peters, Markus Rowe, Domenic Tortolano.

Members of the 12-U squad included: Benjamin Laine, Cailin King, Caleb Pineau, Christopher Houle, Corey Johnson, Danielle Harris, Dylan Fogarty, Ella Delprete, Gavin Gliottone, Lukas Escobar, Mallory Struckel, Robert Healy, Seamus Kelaghan, Timothy Clark. Coaches were Mike King, Kevin Harris, John Houle, Rachel Desrochers.
